To everyone in the Equal Parenting Movement, please know that this decision has not been made lightly.
With much discussion over the past 3 weeks, with my wife and close friends, we have decided to stop my Cross Canada Run once I make it to Ottawa, and suspend the rest of my run until next summer. The plan will be to start my run again on June 1st, 2011, from Parliament Hill in Ottawa, to Cape Spear, Newfoundland.
The reason for this decision is the deterioration of my knees. For the past 3 weeks, my left knee has been locking up on me
as I run and walk. Truthfully, I probably should have stopped in Sault Ste. Marie, but I decided that the appropriate
place to stop would be at Parliament Hill in Ottawa, as Parliament Hill is where the "Frankenstein" of the Family Law System
was created, and where it could be amended to truly serve the best interests of our children.
Furthermore, I am experiencing sharp, shooting pains in both of my knees. This is not a good sign, and
I am afraid that if I continue all the way to Newfoundland this summer, I will do irreversible damage to my knees.
By stopping in Ottawa, and suspending the rest of my run until next summer, I am hoping that I can get
my knees rehabilitated through either surgery, physiotherapy, or both, so that I can finish the run next summer.
As disappointed as I am with having to stop, I am trying to look at the positives of this decision.
First, my knees will get the physiotherapy that they so desperately need. Second, I will be home to help my wife in the upbringing of our children. With school starting in September, she could really use my help. :) Third, my job of raising awareness for the issue of Equal Parenting Family Law Reform can continue. Once my run is over, it is over. :( By suspending the rest of my run until next summer, it isn't over. :) I can still be doing media interviews over the next year to help create awareness for this Human Rights Issue.
Again, please know that this decision has not been made lightly. I thank you in advance for your understanding.
EQUAL SHARED PARENTING FAMILY LAW REFORM IN CANADA
"For a Country that prides itself on being a Nation of Peace Keepers,
why is it that Canada has a so-called "Justice" System in place that asks families,
during one of the most difficult times in their lives, to go to war with one another
over their children? Aren't we as Canadians better than this???" - David Nash
Hello Canada. My name is Dave Nash, and on June 1st, 2010,
I will attempt to break the Guinness World Record for
the Fastest Crossing of Canada on Foot (Male).
The current record was set from June 21st, to September 1st,
in 1991 by one of the greatest Ultra-Marathon runners to have ever laced
up a pair of running shoes,
Mr. Al Howie, who ran across Canada, from St John's, Nfld, to Victoria, BC,
a distance of 7295.5 km (4,533.2 miles), in an amazing 72 days, 10 hrs and 23 min.
Mr. Howie was averaging an astounding 103 km (65 miles) a day.
Why Am I Doing This Cross Canada Run/Walk?
I am running and walking across Canada to make YOU, the Canadian Citizen aware that our Canadian
Government, both Federally & Provincially, as well as our Nation’s so-called “Family” Justice System,
is FAILING Canadian Children and their Families miserably. The current system that we have in place,
and have had in place since 1985, is bankrupting Canadian Families, emotionally, as well as financially,
and it needs to be stopped. The system is also unnecessarily wasting billions of YOUR hard earned Tax Dollars.
Some estimates have been given as high as 10 to 12 Billion Dollars annually.
Furthermore, I am attempting to break this World Record to raise awareness about the Canadian Governments'
UNWILLINGNESS and OUTRIGHT REFUSAL to reform the system For The Sake Of Our Children.
The Canadian Government
has been given many opportunities, over the past 20 years, to reform this broken, failing system,
and demonstrate that they do care about the best interests of Canadian Children, yet they have rejected each
and every opportunity that has been presented to them, and have continually demonstrated their contempt for
the Children of Divorce in Canada, as well as their lack of respect for struggling Canadian Families who
are in need of help.
Moreover, I am attempting to break the World Record for the Fastest Crossing of Canada on Foot to help get
as a Canadian Citizen, for an Equal Shared Parenting Private Members Bill, Bill C-422,
that was introduced before Parliament on June 16th, 2009, by MP, Maurice Vellacott of Saskatoon.
Bill C-422 would reform the Divorce Act, and help put Children's best interests forward by making
Equal Shared Parenting the normative determination by courts dealing with situations of divorce
I ask you; don't the Children of Divorce deserve the right to have an
Equal Relationship with both their Mother and their Father???
If you believe that Children do, then please help me ensure that Bill C-422 gets passed, by writing
a letter to your Member of Parliament, Canada's Justice Minister, Mr. Rob Nicholson, as well as
our Prime Minister, Mr. Stephen Harper.
Please visit the
Write Your Member Of Parliament Page, to learn more about how you can help ensure
that Bill C-422 gets passed into law.

Equal Shared Parenting Family Law Reform In Canada Petition
I would love to run the For The Sake Of The Children Marathon Of Hope in celebration of
our government’s reformation of the Divorce Act, and it’s taking control of an
out-of-control Family Justice System, and directing the courts to make equal shared parenting
the presumptive arrangement in the best interests of the children. As it currently stands
however, I am running across Canada in protest of the current system, and in protest of the
Canadian Governments refusal to do the right thing, and reform the Divorce Act for the sake of our children.
I am hoping that this run will bring much needed media attention to the FAILING
system that we currently have in place, as well as start a healthy debate among Canadians about
Equal Shared Parenting, Equal Rights, as well as Children’s Rights.
Chances are you probably know someone who has been deeply effected by the FAILING so-called
“Family” Justice System that we have in place in Canada. Maybe you have seen a co-worker,
a good friend, or a family member be stripped of their dignity, their sanity, their finances,
their home, and most importantly, their CHILDREN. Maybe you yourself have been FAILED by the current
system. If you, or someone you know has been FAILED by the Canadian “Family” Justice System,
I would love to hear from you. Please email me at
“Please help me make Canada a better Nation for our Children, and
our Children’s Children. A Nation they can truly be proud of" – Dave Nash
